“Open your eyes / and look within / Are you satisfied / with the life you’re living?”
– Bob Marley, “Exodus”
Something happens when reggae music starts playing. I mean, prove me wrong: there is just this certain vibration through the innermost part of our soul that takes one to a place of love right away—you can almost see Jah light when the jamming really gets going. I almost can’t help but tap my feet or sway to the beat when reggae music starts to play, and that’s exactly how I felt throughout almost the entirety of the Bob Marley: One Love movie.
Not only does the film give an accurate portrayal of Bob Marley’s life during his humbling rise to fame—including a glimpse inside his early life with his parents and absent father—but Ziggy Marley was actually a big part of the production as well being on set every single day to oversee how the film showcased his late father.
The movie takes place in Bob Marley’s born place on the breathtaking island of Jamaica and also in Europe, where he moved to London to try and make a hit record (and later going on a European tour).
Something within Bob Marley and “the message” of Jah was inevitable; there was no way he was going to give up his spreading love to the people, even if it meant risking his own life in the wake of a violent period in history that left the beloved country of Jamaica shook.
Throughout the story you will become inspired by Bob Marley’s movement, the creativity and art of his music in triumphant times, his undying love and support for his friends and family, and of course: the love of his life and creative musical partner Rita.
Among the so many reasons to see such a beautifully made film, most of all, it is just to remember a great and invaluable piece of history with the legend himself who helped change music forever.
