The Hobbit-themed “Green Dragon Pub” is reason enough to book a ticket to New Zealand

“There is more in you of good than you know, child of the kindly West. Some courage and some wisdom, blended in measure. If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.”

J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit

In case you were looking for a legitimate reason to book a plane ticket to New Zealand (and happen to be a huge Tolkien nerd), Hobbiton Movie Set Tours recently cut the ribbon to their newest 80 person project: The Green Dragon Pub, aka the Hobbit-inspired establishment located at the 10-year-old film-set-turned-tourist-attraction village in Matamata, NZ (that also looks like the perfect place to spend a night of barreling!).

So what exactly does one drink at a Hobbit pub? And are there tidbits? The Facebook page disclosed that, “[w]hen you visit The Green Dragon on tour you have the choice of the Girdle Fine Ale, Sackville Cider, Oak Barton Ale or Southfarthing Ginger Ale,” and there’s also a pretty scrumptious-looking photo of “the best Savoury and Cheese scones anywhere in The Shire.” Yum!

Thirsty? Get directions and start planning your trip to Matamata, your drink awaits you!
