TRAINWRECK review: LBJ makes Hollywood movie debut, Schumer writes/stars in the funniest comedy of the summer directed by Judd Apatow

Before going into Trainwreck I of course knew that Amy Schumer was going to kill it because that’s just what she does, everything we love (and more, somehow). But Trainwreck isn’t just a story about a 30-something girl who gets it in every other night and does whatever the f*ck she wants, but like, this one’s actually an actual tear-jerker, guys.

Schumer writes and stars as herself, Amy, working as a magazine editor dealing with various struggles like her dad’s ALS worsening and her bitchy sister trying to take control for her own sake as she is about to give birth to her first child. Schumer’s character is outlandish and terrible and amazing all at the same time, but things change when she meets Aaron (Bill Hader) for a work assignment she never even wanted in the first place. Despite it not being her ideal gig, Schumer and Hader evolve into quite the cute couple spending every day and night together, totally changing Amy’s old relentless ways (booze and one-night stands).

Oh, and my favorite Clevelander/Cavalier LeBron James takes a pretty big role as Hader’s sidekick, and it turns out he’s pretty damn good. LBJ plays himself, and not going to lie, I was impressed with James’ on-screen abilities and really dig his “other” side off the court as a producer/actor/comedian (but that’s also not to say I also don’t love him equally as much on the court!).

I love this movie because 1) it’s funny; Judd Apatow / Amy Schumer do us right, 2) Trainwreck’s Amy defies the typical female Hollywood role (more lead characters like this please), and 3) the script comes directly from Schumer, one of the most genuinely hilarious comedians out there right now, all things considered (let’s be real: she’s been bringing the laughs as of late).

The movie is still playing in theaters and it’s only a matter of time until it comes out on DVD so go see TRAINWRECK!
