The tastes of Peru at the new Gansevoort Market’s MISSION CEVICHE

“The new sushi with a sidekick”

What is “ceviche?”, you might be wondering. Well there’s a first time for everything, and for me it was at the brand new Gansevoort Market’s 14th Street location.

Inside the market there are many options opening up as the space continues to evolve. One of those is Mission Ceviche, what started as an idea by Chef Jose Chavez Rivera who was longing for authentic Peruvian tastes in the city. Then later with the help of his talented team and partner, the restaurant has turned into a reality combining the traditional raw food dish with spicy seasoning and citrus juices originally born in Peru.

So how does it work exactly? First, you pick your protein with many fresh fish options like shrimp, octopus, tuna, or the featured catch of the day. Next comes your “tiger milk”, aka saucy deliciousness that will give your fish the perfect flavor. Lastly you get a compliment of lettuce or quinoa salad. All ceviches come with red onions, micro cilantro, orange glazed sweet potatoes, giant corn, and Incan popcorn.

Then there’s the Peruvian “lunchable”, Mission Civiche’s alternative menu item that works similarly, choosing between seafood, chicken, or beef; you also get sides of rice, quinoa, or rice and beans.

Mission Ceviche is a seafood lover’s dream, and anyone who’s craving a healthy, fresh lunch option (that just so happens to be conveniently located!), definitely head over to the new Gansevoort Market for a bite.
