Dear Sugar Kickstarter: the latest Anima Sola venture based on Wild author Cheryl Strayed’s advice column

“Be brave enough to break your own heart”

Mark Olsen and Will Scheffer of Anima Sola Productions are pretty busy writers / producers: Big LoveGetting On, and now an adapted animated short film Dear Sugar is in the works based on author Cheryl Strayed‘s advice column that first appeared in 2010 on The Rumpus.

Strayed, aka “Sugar”, who is known for books such as her #1 New York Times bestseller WILD that is being distributed by Fox Searchlight this year starring Reese Witherspoon, has received many awards for her writing such as the Barnes & Noble Discover Award and Midwest Booksellers Choice Award among others, it’s no wonder her unique “punk rock” voice has caught the attention of readers and filmmakers alike.

“Practice saying the word ‘love’ to the people you love so when it matters the most to say it, you will.”

The project, produced and adapted by Scheffer and Olsten aka Anima Sola, will be transformed visually by animator David Polonsky who won a Golden Globe for his work in WALTZ WITH BASHIR (that was also nominated for an Academy Award!). Lisa Bellomo, who co-executive produces Getting On and has a long resume in the indie film world (How to Kill Your Neighbor’s Dog, Love in the Time of Money) will also serve as a Dear Sugar producer.

Follow on Twitter and Instagram for the latest #dearsugar news and stay tuned for the 30 day journey starting TODAY 5/27 and take part in the passion-filled project. Every donation counts, even if it’s just $1 you will be making words come to life in a way that’s pretty much magic.
