I have loved Bobby Cannavale for so long and I am pumped to see him take a lead that is so badass and rock n’ roll—perfect for his demeanor—in this new HBO series Vinyl directed by Martin Scorsese.
Cannavale plays the head rec exec of Century Records, Richie, who is going through somewhat of an identity crisis. And well, let’s just say he has a little bit of a love/hate relationship with the “Bolivian dancing dust.”
Within minutes of the Pilot’s opening, Richie is already nose deep in his car snorting cocaine after he finally finds his “sugar”. As soon as he gets his fix, he sets out into the night for some music.
For a guy who started from the bottom scrubbin’ vomit workin’ his way to the top, he has pretty much seen it all. But there’s a paradigm post-Beatles shift in music that has left Capitol Records in somewhat of a rut, and Richie must find the next best thing, quick.
Vinyl’s “Pilot” is an incredible two hours that’s soundtrack will leave you wanting to tune in to your local classic rock station, wishing it was the 70s in New York.
The show will air Sundays at 10pm on HBO. Watch for episode 2’s preview:
